PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES
May 27, 2010 (Summarized) St. John’s Parish Mission Statement: St. John the Evangelist of Wahpeton, a Catholic community of faithful stewards, uniquely gifted, is committed to living fully a spiritual life. We accomplish this mission by: † Celebrating a sacramental life; † Being a hospitable, generous, faithful, and forgiving people; † Serving as a renewing community of life and love; † Supporting all people in their journey toward the Kingdom of God. Parish Goal One: To have functioning, inspiring and welcoming religious grounds that will meet the present and future needs of the parish and community by developing and implementing a plan for addressing the education facility needs. Parish Goal Two: To promote continual spiritual growth and fuller participation throughout the parish. We will obtain this goal by researching, developing and implementing a renewal process; developing effective methods for evangelization; developing effective methods for increasing participation by all; promoting enrollment in the parish school and by creating effective communication tools. OLD BUSINESS: BUILDING PROJECT: The kitchen equipment has been delivered and will be installed. We are waiting for them to get going on the outside work so the road work, sidewalks, curbing and the fence can be completed. The carpeting will be installed the first part of July. Butch is working on the floors. Geothermal is up and running. The semi-trailer will be in place until the pavement is done. Paul Dimmer has made a cross for the outside entry. WELCOMING COMMITTEE: 350 Easter eggs with medals inside were distributed to children at the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. A dinner for our RCIA participants was held. A camping event is being worked on. They are also working on a new booklet for newcomers. Working on plans for NDSCS pizza party. Pictures of newly baptized members have been posted. BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS: Bids have been received for the roof on the Mehok Center. We will need to figure which will work best for our roof. Newman Center will be empty most of the time, will be shutting down water and electricity to save money. YOUTH: Vacation Bible School will be held June 7th - 10th from 5:30 - 8:30 pm. EVANGELIZATION: Children books are going well - have given out over 200 books. CD’s are also going well. NEW BUSINESS: Need petitions signed to get the Religious Freedom act on the ballot. 2010-2011 budgets were approved. PASTORS REMARKS: Fr. Dodge reported on the upcoming changes to the Mass which will take place starting November 27, 2011.
